Unsheathe your Sword this Ramadan

Assalamalaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu.

 Alhamdulillah, assalaatu wassalaamu ’ala Rasoolullah

The month of Ramadan is here. May Allah give us tawfeeq to fast this Ramadan and thus earn His countless Mercy and forgiveness for our sins.

My dear brothers and sisters in Islam, we, the Muslim Ummah is now witnessing one of the rarest moments in history. As people say, we are now witnessing the uprising of the Muslim Ummah to the glorious days of past – Insha Allah. We have seen people in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen and rise, the last year. We have seen how Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala has toppled the oppressive regimes one after the other at the hands of simple steadfast Muslims, and now glad tiding are flowing from Syria regarding the crumbling of Bashar the murderer. Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar! the mujahideen in FSA has already managed to take some of his top officials out.

Brothers and sisters, we know that our people are oppressed all over the globe, whether it is in Palestine, Kashmir, Syria, Chechnya, China, or in Burma, the story is all the same with different people. The sad part is when we look at what our stance is towards these issues. Being a person living far away from these lands, I find myself as if living in a different universe. I see no concern from the people around me towards these sufferings our brothers bear, even though the words of our Beloved (s) are clear regarding these matters. I see no word spoken by the leaders of organizations – with the exception of a very few. Also I see no Imaam making a Khutba on the mimbar or any dua for these people. Sometimes it makes me wonder whether these people have not heard of these events or not.

Dawah in Makkah: The Reality

The fact that he (صلي الله ءليه ؤ سلم) sat amongst them (mushrikeen of Makkah) for thirteen years, does not mean that he praised or commended them or took some kind of oath upon respecting them, as is done by many of the ignorant ones, who attribute themselves to the Dawah, towards the modern Yāsiq of this era (i.e. the constitution of the apostate governments). Rather, he صلي الله ءليه ؤ سلم used to declare his open enmity and disavowal towards the polytheists (Mushrikīn) and their deeds and show his disbelief in their gods, despite his weakness and the weakness of his companions. And we have explained this for you in what has passed. And when you consider the Makkah-period of the Qurān, much of this will become clear to you. From it, for instance, His, the Most High’s statement in describing the condition of His Prophet صلي الله ءليه ؤ سلم in Makkah towards the disbelievers:
And when those who disbelieve see you, they take you not except for mockery (saying): “Is this the one who talks (badly) about your gods?” While they disbelieve at the mention of the Most Beneficent (Allāh). [al-Anbiya:36]

The Salaf, The Rulers and The (so called) 'Salafis'..

And the stance of the predecessors (Salaf) with the leaders of their time – those about whom it would not be correct in any circumstances to compare them with this Tāghūt and the likes of him – were firm, clear, pure stances. And where is the stance of many of the people of the Da‛wah in our time compared to them? Despite their fame and the applause of their followers for them, despite the fact that those predecessors (Salaf) did not graduate from the “Faculties of Political Sciences and Rights” and they did not used to read the stench-filled newspapers or magazines, with the argument of knowing the plots of the enemies, but despite that, they used to flee from the Sultāns and their gates. And the Sultāns would seek them out and attempt to persuade them with wealth and other things. However, those who attribute themselves to them (i.e. the Salaf), from those whom Shaytān has played with their religion, seek for their worldly life (Dunyā) to be good by the destruction of their religion. So they come and seek the entrances of the Sultān and the Sultān humiliates them and turns away from them while the predecessors (Salaf), may the pleasure of Allāh be upon them, used to prevent the entering upon the leaders of tyranny; even those who wanted to order them with the good and forbid them with the evil, due to fear that they might fall into tribulation (Fitnah) because of them. (Therefore, they feared) that they might cozy-up to them or make them appear good, due to their generosity or that they might remain silent upon some of their falsehood or approve of it. And they used to see that being far removed from them and being secluded from them was the best disavowal (Barā’ah) and objection upon their circumstances.

Expect the Best from Allah

A verse in the Book of Allāh caused me to stop and reflect for quite some time, and it deserves for me to stop at it:
“And it is He Who sends down the rain after they have despaired, and spreads abroad His Mercy. And He is the Guardian, the Praiseworthy.”  [ash-Shūrā; 28]
So, in my mind, I imagined how the people would panic over their families, livestock, and land due to the severe drought occurring in the midst of the oppressive, scorching heat. They had hope in Allāh and turned to supplication until they had no hope left, and were sure that they would perish.
